Susannah creates contemporary jewellery and the occasional piece of homeware, using pewter, silver or gold. She is inspired by popular culture, fascinated by the charms of everyday objects and love retro fashion.
Susannah studied Designed Metalwork and Jewellery at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College from 2000 to 2003 and went straight to work for Diana Porter and then Nicholas Wylde. She completed the National Association of Goldsmiths JET Gemstone course in 2006 and is now an Associate Member of the NAJ.
Throughout her career, she has enjoyed evening classes in Photography, Illustration, Photoshop and Printmaking, all of which have influenced the way Susannah designs and presents her work.
Entry description
This piece is designed to represent the economic extremes of the 1920s. It is created by casting, filing and polishing pewter. The fastening uses a Mabe pearl (to represent prosperity) or carved piece of coal (to signify the depression), threaded through the hole in the brooch along with the clothing itself.
