Gill Clement has had a studio in Mumbles near Swansea since 1982. She has always been fascinated by pattern, texture and colour and makes jewellery to provoke both admiration and conversation. She uses her collection of antique lace to emboss patterns onto thin pewter sheet using a rolling mill, the malleability of pewter enabling beautiful textures to be printed onto the surface.
Entry description
For this necklace piece Gill has incorporated hand-cut Norwegian serpentine stones with pewter, delicately wrapping the foil around the surfaces. Through burnishing the pewter onto the stones, halting just before the pewter disintegrates, a harmony is created between the different materials becoming one.
