Joy was born in The Hague and was fortunate to live and enjoy the cultures of other countries. Family, work and travel has squeezed her time commitment to allow for full creative explorations. Being a mixed media artist and finding pewter, this most versatile of materials, has given Joy endless pleasure and opportunities.

African/American highly influenced the music along with dramatic social and political change and freedom for women. Popular singer, Bessie Smith (American Blues) along with Louis Armstrong were major influences on the jazz scene.
In the forefront is the prominent outline of an emerging woman. Behind her is an art deco panel – pewter/stained glass mix, set in a block frame.
